IZAIAH CARDONA

11TH GRADE

The Unbreakable Curse

Hello people and species of the unknown. My name is Izaiah Cardona and I’m here to show you how people are doing in quarantine, like me. It happened out of nowhere. I lost my sense of smell and taste, which felt like a midlife crisis. I love smelling and tasting food. After I told my family, I had to isolate myself from them and it felt horrible. These photos were taken during and after self-isolation. This experience was like a living nightmare to me. I had to be in my room for a whole week and couldn’t touch things with my bare hands. I used alcohol wipes to open the bathroom door and to flush the toilet.

Imagine feeling squishy and hard objects in your mouth for an entire week. The third day was horrible because my family made food that was given from the gods. Pizza! The best food in the world!

That day was a living nightmare. All I felt in my mouth was crunchy stuff and something squishy. The rest of the week, I sat on my white fluffy chair playing some video games, like Roblox, Gears of War 5, and Fortnite. I felt less lonely playing Roblox with my brother, who was able to sign on from a laptop in the other room.

Now that I’m no longer isolated, I’m back with my family and having fun with them. I’m released from the burden curse of losing my sense of taste and smell. I am free from the confinement of my room. “I have spoken.” These are the words from the old guy from the star wars show “Mandalorian”. This was the show that me and my family started to watch after I was out of self-isolation. Thanks for seeing my presentation and “Live long and prosper.”

During the time I lost my sense of taste, pizza felt squishy and hard.

This was one of the toughest days I went through because pizza is one of my favorite foods.
