YANICK ILBOUDO
6TH GRADE
Friends Through the World of Gaming
This project is about gaming and making friends through it. Gaming is a great time all around, but it can get even better when you have a buddy to share the experience. Someone who can get you diamonds in Minecraft or be your partner in crime in Among Us.
My name is Yanick. I'm a 12-year-old 6th grader who loves to play games. Usually, I play with my friend. She is also 12 and a 6th grader. For the story we will call her S. I live in White Plains, she lives in Staten Island. We like to play games a lot, whether it’s fending off mobs in Minecraft, surviving natural disasters in Roblox, or murdering the entire crew in Among Us. We usually play Minecraft, sometimes with 2 other people, and it’s a great time. I also like to play single-player games like Pokemon. Pokemon is my favorite game, specifically Pokemon X and Y. Because games are so fun, I decided to make this project about making friends and building bonds with people.
Before I was big into games, all the relationships I built with people weren’t very strong. Like, talk-once-and-never-again-strong. But one day, in 1st grade, a kid entered our class. At recess, he asked me and a few other people to play a game with him. We did and we had a great time. Eventually, in 3rd grade, S. joined our school. We talked a bit, but not much. Eventually, I received her phone number and that night, I talked to her a bit. After that though we, again, didn’t talk much. But then, COVID came around and shut everything down. I was BORED out of my mind and decided to call S. I asked her to play Minecraft with me and we had a SPECTACULAR time gathering resources, killing mobs, and overall enjoying the game. Speaking of which, remember that photo at the end? Yeah, that was of me holding the Ender Dragon's egg after me and S. defeated it. Let me explain. So in Minecraft, there is a boss called the Ender Dragon. A huge purple dragon with a RIDICULOUS AMOUNT of HP. In order to beat Minecraft, you have to kill the dragon by traveling to the End via portal.
Anyways, we had such a great time that we continued to play together, and we got closer. I started to play other games too during quarantine, like the other Pokemon games in the series. Now, S. is my best friend and we STILL play together to this day. I will never, EVER, forget this experience.
